Oversize End Links

Why add oversized end links? Forged steel shackles, size for size, are not as strong as the corresponding chain it connects. So, in the old days and in some circumstances today, you had to get a shackle two or three sizes bigger than the chain in order for the working loads (strengths) to match. But, since the pins on those larger shackles wouldn't fit through the link, oversize links had to be welded to the chain to accommodate them. Today you can use alloy shackles that match the strength of most windlass chains but we still offer the oversize links for those who want them. A chart at the bottom of each windlass chain page shows you the size to order.

You can add oversize end links to each end for using larger shackles. An additional charge applies. This is a special order item. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. Being a custom welded part, this is a non-returnable item.

Since we use alloy steel end links, both Grade 40 (G4) and BBB grade chains use the same size end links.
